Part Number and name: G106B File-N-Joint

Used for/with: Sharpening all saw chains

Fits: Will hold all file sizes for standard chain pitches and lowering depth gauges

General description: The G106B File-N-Joint is Granberg’s original precision bar-mounted chainsaw file guide — and the tool that started it all. Invented by Elof Granberg over 60 years ago, it remains the industry standard for accuracy, durability, and consistency in hand filing.

Constructed from cast aluminum and zinc-plated steel, the File-N-Joint mounts directly to your chainsaw bar and provides stable, repeatable sharpening results. Calibrated swivel guide markings allow you to easily set and maintain the correct sharpening angle, while integrated guides help control file height and tooth length for uniform cutters.

The File-N-Joint also allows precise lowering of depth gauges, ensuring proper chain performance and smooth, efficient cutting.

Simple, rugged, and proven over decades of use, the G106B is trusted by professionals and homeowners alike for accurate hand sharpening in the field or shop.

I am an urban forester or arborist now for over 15 years and have tried many different approaches to sharpening saw chains. The Ganberg Jig (File-N-Joint) has been my answer for sharpening my chains back to “like new” sharpness for years now. The difference with the jig is it ability to consistently sharpen each tooth the exact same length the exact same sharpness preventing one sides’ teeth from being longer than the which, on a longer bar, can cause the chain to cut on a curve. The ability to set consistent tooth length and to be able to sharpen full chisel chain, with the jigs ability to set the three angles to do that type of chain, make this a my go to sharpener.

Allows me to keep everything in line and quick to connect and run through teeth. Should save a lot of waist over sharpening freehand.

I have tried many other sharpeners over the years..including the hand held electric ones. While many like the electric ones work.. they give little control over making each tooth the same in all aspects. It took me a while to figure out how to set all the different settings.. but once done..I have gotten the best and most uniform sharpening I have ever gotten. And the nice things is that the sharpener can be used any where you happen to be when you need to sharpen the chain.

Love this sharpener, it like all granberg products are top notch 100% quality. This is one of the best ways to get the most out of your chains.some of the big table mounted grinders ,while very effective, can eat your chain up quickly if your not careful. This one doesn’t do that.i highly recommend this setup and all other granberg products as far as that goes.

I was given an older File-n-Joint Junion Mod. 1A106. I need a diagram of parts and instructions to use this older model, please. Do you have anything on this product, Mod 1A106?

Use my Granberg and love it. Perfect sharpening every time.

I use the Granberg G106B on the chains of my older Stihl 015 & 031 and my MS-170. Chain teeth come out nearly perfect every time. Fully adjustable for all angles & depths for teeth & depth gauges.

I’ve used this sharpening guide for a few seasons now and it has many strengths. Namely, you will have an as-new chain when you’re done. As mentioned by others, its adjustability is what takes some time to understand and get right. Fiddling and learning. Fellows, this just plain works and doesn’t eat up chain like some other more clumsy systems. Thank you for your time.

The clamp and chain guide get the job done but could be easier to setup and adjust(at least for small/thin chain types). Also seems difficult to joint the depth gauges without dulling the freshly sharpened cutting teeth. Is there a video showing any tricks to this function? And how about setting up files for square-ground chain?
Anyway, it is much better quality than similar-looking chinese knockoffs. Some new battery-electric saws will need to have the bar removed from the powerhead and placed in a soft-jaw bench vice because the powertrain doesn’t have a smooth freewheel and forced the chain jump ahead and back.

While this sharpener works great for my chainsaw which runs a chisel tip chain. It doesn’t work for “fit” over the .404 chain on my processor which is the primary reason for its purchase. I needed a sharpener that can quickly sharpen the .404chains as they are 40$ or more a piece and need sharpening every 20 cord. Which my processor can cut in a single 10hr day.
